So this time last week I was experiencing my first major fighting game video game tournament. It was headlined as the EVO of the east coast! I totally enjoyed myself. Warning: this post is image heavy... I guess.

Stay True and Keep it Awesome!

Sooooooo it's officially my birthday weekend! I'm currently at work since I'm making up some hours. My ailments and a bunch of business put a big delay on my 25 by 26 list so I will accomplish these goals by the summer's end. It didn't put a damper on my mood or anything, I just keep striving forward. I have been discovering so much lately and this excites me and opens up more opportunities for me this summer. I am going to work on vlogging and such. I am expanding and finding more and more people that share similar interests with me. **A little secret: I have always embraced my nerdy/geeky side (what-have-you) but I have always kind of kept it low-key around certain folks due to them just thinking that I am just straight up weird. That all changes from this point on. I will be posting more about those interests up here since this IS MY personal blog anyway because I find myself having so much to say about the shows I love and my current activities and going-on's but can never get any ideas posted when I want to speak on other topics. So I guess in a way that this is a sign that I am trying to hard and not being fully true to myself and my blog. All of my current drafts seem so gimmicky and just- UGH! Sooooo I will be posting more about the things that I love. So be prepared to be bombarded with superheroes, movies, shows, activities, and ideas.
Highlights of my week
- I found a ton of blogs geared toward lady geeks and girl nerds of color.
- I befriended two female competitive fighting gamers of color through twitter. They are so nice, inspirational and quite awesome. They also play games that I dabble in!
- All of my plans for the summer for [bfp] is slowly but surely getting locked in and recruitment is looking very promising.
- Cashing in all of these free birthday coupons and such. This will carry throughout the weekend.
- Quality time with the boyfriend. He is really embracing my vlogging.
- I rediscovered Dr. Who and am now officially a Dr. Whooligan! (I like to think I coined the phrase since I believe the official title is "Whovian" but I like Hooligan better.)
- Caught up on Game of Thrones, YEEEEEAAAAAH! I want dragons now.
I'm sorry ready to leave this library and take my client home, get some red robin and red velvet cupcakes, and go to the trampoline park in Winston-Salem with the boo. So much fun planned. You all have a great weekend. My personal new year starts tomorrow.

Friday Five: Gadget Girl
Here are some of my most wanted gadgets from Think Geek.
2. Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter - My dad is a trekkie and I am also a trekkie and I looooove pizza so is any further explanation needed?
3. Tetris Stackable LED Desk Lamp - Who could hate on this classic?
4. Bluetooth Handset Gloves - I want to walk around and act like I did as a child acting like I was on the phone but this time around it would actually be someone really talking to me.
5. ForkChops 3-in-1 Eating Utensils - This would be so perfect for the fatty in me. It works both ways and I love the concept of this gadget.
Welp, those are my top 5. What gadgets do you have on your wishlist? Have a great weekend folks!

Weekend Wrap-Up: Free Comic Book Day
![]() |
On the road! We were excited for the day's events.
Don came to my apartment to scoop me up and we headed to our first stop, Acme Comics. Acme comics is pretty much the oldest comic shop in Greensboro and has a lot of clout. The employees are awesome and nice and they host great events. The wait in line was quite long (about an hour long, yeesh). While in line we witnessed cosplays from the "Up all night party" at Geeksboro from the previous night for the folks wanting to be first in line. We were also given free waters and comic sketches from local artists for the kids to color while waiting. It was pretty cool. Don and I watched a little "One Piece" on my phone and it definitely passed time a little faster. Some of the line's entertainment:

Tony Stark's looks: relaxed on the left and business man on the right.

Snapping shots in our [bfp] shirts as we wait.

So finally after two hours of socializing, meeting folks, answers Geek culture questions about comics for prizes, and checking out new busts on display in-store, we make it out with our free books! Let me tell you, I was elated! That bag was hefty.

So happy that I got my comics. They spoiled us.
We decided to hit up Parts Unknown, another local comic shop in the UNCG area. It's been around for awhile and is a cute little quaint shop with nice employees and a warm and inviting owner.

Spring Garden, can you spot Superman on the corner?
![]() |
We got there later in the afternoon so we missed out on a wider variety due to limited stock.

My picks!

This shop is so intimate, I love it.

I fell in love with the paper mache superheroes lining the walls.
I pray that y'all had a great weekend!

It's Free Comic Book Day!
Today is Free Comic Book Day! I plan on visiting my local comic shops today to get my bags of free comics and socialize with folks that have been waiting ALL year for this day. I discovered Free Comic Book Day back in 2007 and have been finding some way to go or getting my comics if I wasn't near a shop. If you want to find a participating location close to you in the area check out http://www.freecomicbookday.com/ for details.
While you have some time, check out the latest track from my crew [bfp]. This song is perfect for Free Comic Book Day.

Friday Five: Boob Tube Obsessions
When I tell you Hulu Plus has been giving me my entire life lately I am not lying to you! I don't normally watch television. I don't even bother to have cable but ever since I got my Playstation 3, I have been hogging all of the tv/movie subscription apps on my PS3 and mobile devices. Hulu has given me the opportunity to catch shows that I kept hearing about and have been meaning to look at and also discover new ones. Cable will be a thing of the past with these amazing apps. I now present to you five shows that were new to me that I absolutely love:
The IT Crowd - The comedic adventures of a ragtag group of tech support workers at a large corporation.
The Mindy Project - A young Ob/Gyn doctor balances her personal and professional life, surrounded by quirky co-workers in a small office.
The New Normal - A single mother's life as she becomes a surrogate for a gay couple.
Go On - An irreverent yet charming sportscaster who, after a loss, finds solace from members of his mandatory group therapy sessions.
The Neighbors - A New Jersey family moves to an affluent gated community composed entirely of extraterrestrials.
If you haven't done so already, check these out!

Dance Like Nobody's Watching
I love and adore anything that exudes and encourages confidence and making yourself happy. I recently subscribed to this youtube channel HelloGiggles. They have all types of videos but out of the many videos available, my favorites are the "Dance Like Nobody's Watching" series. These women set up a camera and just start dancing in public places while listening to their music player. First off, they have excellent music choices, secondly, I just like the reasoning as to why they do it, and of course I just love the randomness and reactions of people surrounding them.
At an airport terminal.
At a laundromat.
